Training: To train capoeira is more than to just go once in while for the aerobic
workout or to enjoy the energy of the roda. Of course we welcome anyone for whom this is appropriate, but for most this is
not enough, there exists a rich culture and tradition in which capoeiristas immerse themselves, training, researching and
socializing outside of class. Grupo Candeias is very dedicated to perpetuating and maintaining the tradition while involving
as is necessary for the survival of this art form. To earn the next level cord ( belt ) you must try to learn your game, the
movements to play in the roda, learn the instruments, learn the chorus to the songs first and sing as loud as you can, clapping
your hands. Playing: When you play in the roda try to develop you game, try new
things, don’t be afraid of not being able to do it right, just don’t forget your basic movements, repetition and
consistency will improve your game. Play with as many different people as possible and don’t be afraid of playing with
a higher cord ( belt ), they will challenge you and help you grow. Be careful above all things, not to hurt the person
you are playing with.

Grupo Candeias was founded at the SESC Club in the university sector in 1977 in Goiania, Goias Brazil. In
that time the group was called Grupo de Capoeira Anglo Regional and the first groups teacher was Carlos Antonio (carlinhos
chuchu). In the year 1978 Master Passarinho took on the group changing the name to Grupo de Capoeira Sao Bento Pequeno. Two
years later, he decided to leave the SESC in Goiania bringing Grupo Sao Bento Pequeno and part of the student body with him,
in the same year Master Suino took on the group that was left, using the name Grupo de Capoeira Anglo Regional temporarily
until he could create a new name for the group. The group grew very fast, and some of the teachers were founding other
groups of their own, and due to this the Anglo Regional became an association with a high number of followers and because
of that there were a lot of “problems” going on , and questions about how to get all the groups together as one.
Then in 1991 they had a contest to change the name of the group, so all of them could follow the same graduation system,
same philosophy and most importantly the same name. Since 1992 all of them started to use only one name, Grupo Candeias de Capoeira. Nowadays you can find Grupo Candeias in most of Brazil, USA, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, France, Spain, England,
the Czech Republic and Ireland. Grupo Candeias is considered one of the most expressive groups of capoeira with over ten thousand
students. The following chapters are an attempt to provide a basic picture of the more tangible elements of Capoeira.
This work will be read differently by everyone reading it, being that its content will be processed by the unique filters
and lenses of the individual. But the basic format and content has been written with consideration of those who might have
no idea at all about what Capoeira is, as well as those who might have years of experience. In any case, enjoy.
Mestre Suino (Elto Pereira de Brito ) is the founder and president of Grupo Candeias de Capoeira, which has its headquarters
in Goiania, Brazil. Mestre Suino is a graduate in physical education, post-graduate in teaching physical education , and is
always seeking ways to improve the standard of his teachers and students and encouraging the study of capoeira history. Mestre
Suino has recorded 3 CDs and 5 Videos with Grupo Candeias, he has also wrote three books; Fundamento da Capoeira, No Caminho
do Mestre and Capoeira Religiao.
